FXS Gateway
An FXS stands for Foreign Exchange Subscriber. An FXS port is an interface device that connects station devices like phones or PBX to a VoIP adapter. It has an RJ11 port that connects internally to an analog office phone or fax machine. The FXS port is connected with an analog device, the cable never leaves the building.
A telecommunication line from an FXO port must be connected to an FXS device for the connection to work properly. Similarly, a line from an FXS port connects to an FXO port. When the FXO port on an analog telephone is connected to the FXS port, you receive FXS service and hear a dial tone when picking up the phone.
